This problem occurred only after I installed the new disk drive. Also, burner “Properties” indicates the device is working properly. I discovered I could then burn both data and audio CDs with Windows tools. (I also change Windows 7 Autoplay settings to "Ask me every time".) I then re-installed the DAK I tried what you suggested, killing off every process that wasn't really needed but the problem is still there.
