Could you confirm that? Looking into the VMWare link you posted. To answer a few questions here. You should be able to boot the VHD in VirtualBox or Hyper-V now.

I do have the original VHD. Then I tried spinning up that same VM in Hyper-V and it was (once again) running just fine. I had this issue once - when I went back to the physical PC and shut it down properly -> did the vm conversion and then it worked. It mayof been the license on the machine.
