And as I stated, my name isn't on the warranty and I can't get the warranty for at least another month or so. Leaving the the computer alone for an hour finally made it come up with the message "diagnosing problem" Patience people! Try the following tricks to fix it. If the Short Test completes itself and says the hard drive has no errors, I would want to go with ChrisF's answer of running the chkdsk /r command in Recovery Console.
